The University of Bayreuth’s Physics Roadshow visited the Marie-Therese-Gymnasium in Erlangen
Press release, 23 March 2026
Our Prof. Axel Enders, together with our special effects coordinators Thomas Dabisch and Markus Brendel, was once again on the road with his ‘Physics Roadshow’!
In three acts, he explained to the pupils, teachers and parents of the Marie-Therese Gymnasium in Erlangen how, at the turn of the 20th century, minor scientific inconsistencies gave rise to a monumental scientific revolution – quantum mechanics. To this end, the audience in the MTG gym was treated to physics anecdotes and mind-boggling experiments.
The audience was actively involved in a Mexican wave, Rutherford’s scattering experiment using footballs, and the double-slit experiment using paintball guns. And they got to see and hear what was probably the largest Chladni plate in Upper Franconia!
The show was organised at the invitation of one of our alumni, Matthias Hofmann, who now works as a physics teacher at MTG. The students from the WU Event Technology course at MTG Erlangen provided fantastic technical support on the day! @mtg.technik
