Winter semester 2020/2021 - Courses will start on November 2

The start of the courses in the winter semester 2020/2021 will be postponed from October 12 to November 2, 2020, and the end of lectures will accordingly be postponed from February 5 to February 12, 2021.

The winter semester 2020/2021 at the University of Bayreuth will be a "presence semester with varying degrees of digital components". All units of the University of Bayreuth to be included are working consistently and intensively to make the necessary arrangements. Priority will be given to first-semester students, who we would like to welcome on site, depending on the hygiene standards that will apply in the autumn. Furthermore, the focus will be on practical courses that require special labs or work rooms. Presence on the Bayreuth campus should also be made possible for semesters nearing completion.

Please refer to the e-learning server of the university to find out which courses will take place in which form from 2 November:

Important information for first-semester students in the winter semester 2020/21

We are looking forward to welcoming you soon at the University of Bayreuth to start your first semester.

According to the current situation, the basic lectures for first-semester students, e.g. Experimental Physics I (Mechanics), will be able to take place as usual as classroom teaching in the lecture halls of the university.

The hygiene concepts of the University of Bayreuth will also take into account the protection of all participants in this format. We will also keep you informed about further developments on this website.

Up-to-date information, especially for first-year students, can be found directly on the following page:

Mandatory use of masks - extended obligation to use masks

Everywhere and at all times – inside AND outside – compulsory mask-wearing at the University of Bayreuth

On the premises of the University of Bayreuth and its branch offices, it is compulsory for everyone to wear a face mask. This regulation enters into effect on 5 November 2020. Excluded are persons occupying a room alone, or who for medical reasons cannot wear a face mask. This is to be certified by a medical certificate, which must be carried with you at all times.

This means that masks are compulsory indoors and outdoors, at all times and everywhere; for members of the University and for external persons, applying equally to pedestrians, cyclists, and other people engaged in sport on campus (e.g. jogging), whether in groups or alone. The obligation to wear a mask also applies while occupying a fixed seat, even when social distancing can be maintained.

This shall apply as long as, according to the findings of the RKI or the LGL, the number of new infections exceeds 35 per 100,000 inhabitants in Bayreuth within 7 days, or was exceeded less than 6 days ago. Decisive here will be the announcement of the administrative districts and district-free cities on the website of the State Ministry of Health and Care at www.stmgp.bayern.de.

Contact data collection

Everybody has to participate in the collection of contact data. It's a prerequisite for participation in all face-to-face meetings.

On-site collection is required in the following cases:

  • When using the library (in addition to booking in advance) in reading rooms and at workplaces.
  • When using seminar rooms, lecture halls, PC pools, meeting rooms, sports rooms (for courses in addition to booking in advance)
  • When visiting the cafeterias when using tables. In addition, when paying with the CampusCard in the catering establishments, attendance is recorded anonymously using the card number of the CampusCard..

On-site presence is recorded uniformly across the campus via UniNow:

QR-CODE CHECK-IN/OUT with UniNow

The UniNow system offers the following possibilities for data acquisition:

  • Registration via the campus app "UniNow" of the University of Bayreuth
  • Recording without an app using a QR code scanner in the browser of the smartphone.
  • Recording via laptop in the browser using a specific URL given in the room.

Please install - if possible - this app on your smartphone in order to facilitate contact data entry on the entire campus of the University of Bayreuth.

The first time you log in, you must enter the data to be recorded. The "check-in" into a room or at a workplace is carried out independently and on one's own responsibility when entering the room. The "Check-Out" is either carried out by independently checking out when leaving the room or is carried out automatically the next time you check in.

Official Corona Warning AppWarn-App

All members of the university are additionally recommended to use the Corona-Warn-App of the Robert Koch Institute for their stay on the university campus.
